Contracted as a Product Innovation Specialist and UX Design Lead, to support a British multinational oil and gas company in developing a prototype that leveraged data analytics to identify optimal locations for electric vehicle (EV) charging points. The primary objective was to eliminate the manual effort and streamline the process of selecting potential new sites. Data allowing, the prototype has the potential to scale globally, revolutionising the process of expanding EV infrastructure worldwide.
Finding new EV sites that meet specific requirements is labour-intensive, and the prototype was designed to address that challenge. Instead of requiring site owners to submit potential locations individually by email (as per standard), the prototype allowed them to submit site locations directly to the app in bulk. The app would then filter these locations based on pre-selected client location criteria, presenting only the top 4-5 best matches from, for instance, 100 submissions. All location data would however be stored, contributing to a searchable global database of potential sites that could suit future requirements.
Gamification elements such as a leaderboards, ranking and whimsical popups congratulating users when matching with particularly good locations were added to create a sense of achievement fostering engagement to a typically mundane task.
I utilised a combination of Figma and Axure to design the prototype, showcasing various functionalities that guiding the user through the experience.
